IEEE WIE AG Bangladesh Section in conjunction with IEEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES), Women in Power under Online Webinar Series conducted Women in Engineering Tech Meetup during the COVID 19 pandemic situation on 11th July, 2020. The webinar was attended by a total of 3 speakers and 84 participants from India and Bangladesh. The webinar was moderated by Anamika Bhakta, Chair of IEEE WIE AG Bangladesh Section.
One of three speakers of the Tech Meetup was Dr. Deepa Shenoy who is the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering in University of Visvesvaraya, College of Engineering, Bangalore, India. Another speaker was Dr. Aarti Karande, Assistant Professor, Sardar Patel Institute of Technology (SPIT). She is also the chair of WIE SPIT. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET was also present there as one of the speakers who is the chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section.
At first, all the speakers discussed their professional journey and challenges they faced in their careers. So, the career diversity and impact of education on professions were also figured out from the talks. Dr. Aarti Karande mentioned the support of family as a key factor in professional life. All the speakers mentioned students as their strength. Dr. Celia Shahnaz suggested giving priority to the team work and group award than individual awards which was an important learning for the young generation. She advised not to be self-concentrated in research or any step of life. Many more research potential and guidance to young professionals were discussed in the women in engineering tech meetup.
