Women in Engineering Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES), Women in Power jointly organized an international webinar at 7 P.M BDT on the 23rd of June, 2020. Over 47 speakers and participants of 5 countries (Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Pakistan and Australia) and 20 organizations attended the hour and a half long session.
The whole session was moderated by Nafisa Tasnim, Vice Chair, WIE AG, BDS and Senior Engineer, Energypac Engineering Ltd. Dr. N. Nithyavathy, Associate professor, Department of Mechatronics at Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, India and Chair of WIE AG, IEEE Madras Section, discussed her experiments on different composites to investigate their gas sensing characteristics and applications of thin-film technology in her research. Dr. Aparna Akula, Senior Scientist, Computational and Instrumental at CISR-Central Scientific Instruments Organizations, Chandigarh, India, shared with us how she and her team is incorporating Artificial Intelligence in Thermal Imaging, to assist in night vision and access control using temperature sensing. Dr. Mushfika Baishaki Upama discussed her research on Perovskite Solar Cells. Dr. Upama completed her PhD from University of New South Wales and is currently working as an Electrical Engineer at Arup, Australia. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Professor at department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at BUET, is serving as Chair to the IEEE Bangladesh Section. She is also the Advisor, and founder of WIE AG, BDS. She emphasized the importance of local community involvement and the necessity of working together to from a bridge between root level and top level. There were many distinguished professionals among the audience and Dr. Celia Shahnaz invited Dr. Prerna Gaur, SMIEEE, Professor and head of Instrumentation and Control Engineering at Netaji Subhas University of Technology and Dr. Norliza Mohd Noor, Associate Professor in UTM Razak School of Engineering and Advanced Technology, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kuala Lumpur Campus to share their experiences. Dr. Celia Shahnaz concluded the session with a word of thanks to the volunteers and participants in making the webinar a success and wished everyone safety and good health in the pandemic situation.
