IEEE Bangladesh Section Industrial Application Society Summit 2018


IEEE Industrial Application Society Bangladesh Chapter along with IEEE Bangladesh Section organized the first ever IEEE Bangladesh Section Industrial Application Society Summit 2018 on 24 th November 2018 at Robi Axiata Ltd, Corporate Office.

For the first time, students and the industry leaders came under one roof for the summit. Industry experts from different fields were invited. It was a great opportunity for the students to hear and learn from the experiences of the industry leaders. The participants received insights from the industry leaders which will better equip them to plan their careers. The industry leaders talked about their work and how they keep themselves updated about future work trends. The event received a huge response as 139 students from different universities registered for the event.

The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Department of EEE, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. She is also the Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE Industrial Application Society Bangladesh Chapter. She talked about the importance of collaboration between industry, academia and IEEE and the benefits that each party can gain from the collaboration. She gave an overview of what IEEE can offer and the achievements that IEEE Bangladesh Section has unlocked till now.

Pranab Kumar Roy, Chief Engineer, Planning and Design, PGCB then talked about the government job sector of Bangladesh. He gave an overview of his line of work along with the challenges that he faces and how he overcomes them on a day to day basis. He has motivated the young participants to take more responsibilities when they enter the job sector because there is a lot to do in the power sector of Bangladesh.

Safayetul Wahab Chowdhury, Head of R&D of Power Transformers of Energypac Engineering Limited gave an overview of the products the company manufactures and how they are leaving footprints not only in the local markets but also in the international markets. He discussed some of the new products that are still in the research and development stage but will soon be incorporated into the production line. He also specified some areas of the power industry where more research is necessary. This can help students choose topics for their final year dissertation befitting the industry requirements.

The next speaker was Shahriar Ibne Zaman, Head of Digital and Adjacent Business Systems, Planning & Technology from Grameenphone Limited. He started with a brief introduction of himself and then moved on to technical topics. He interacted with the audience regarding the technological shift of the telecom industry thus making the session an interactive one. He also discussed some of the interesting projects that Grameenphone Ltd. have introduced in order to give their customers a better experience.

Asif Naimur Rashid, Head of Information Technology of Robi Axiata Limited was the next speaker. He talked about the automation initiatives taken by Robi like internet bot.

Eklas Uddin Ahmed, CTO of Banglalion then talked about his experiences.

The event was closed by Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET. He is also a Director of Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering, BUET, Nomination, and Appointments Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section, Vice- Chair of IEEE Industrial Application Society Bangladesh Chapter, Education Chair of IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee.
