WIE Session at “IEEE BDS SYW Congress 2016”

On November 04, 2016 in “IEEE BDS SYW Congress 2016” WIE, IEEE BDS arranged a WIE session with a theme of ‘Role of male for women empowerment and leadership development.’

The session aims to introduce successful women entrepreneurs and women leader in the field of Engineering in Bangladesh to inspire the young engineers and students by showcasing their journey, story and how the male counterpart played an important role in their career journey. This inspired the participants to become entrepreneurs and leaders and the challenges they faced in their work environments.

The session started with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET and 2016 IEEE Region 10 WIE Coordinator. She shared the experience and successful stories of her achievements including the contribution from the male counterpart in the whole journey. Her life story motivated the young minds.

After the keynote talk, there was a panel discussion where following panellists were present 1. Anamika Bhakta, Vice President, Robi Axiata Ltd. and Treasurer, IEEE WIE BD 2. Aparajita Goswami, Deputy General Manager, Core Network Planning, Grameenphone 3. Pramiti Anasuya Alam, Deputy Manager, Energypac Engineering Ltd. 4. Tania Rahman, Managing director, SinePulse GmbH, Germany and AplombTech BD Ltd, Bangladesh.

The key discussion was how a male counterpart played a significant role in the professional life for career advancement, what type of negative attitudes experienced from men and how those situation was handled, what are the specific aspects of a woman's career where the help of men is particularly important etc.

In the end an interactive quiz session was conducted by Shoilie Chakma, and Nujhat Tasnem Lecturer, Department of EEE, BRAC University. The session was divided into 3 parts named TRIVIA, JEOPARDY, PUZZLES & DESIGN where the participants participated the quiz session very actively.
