The 2016 IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2016) was organized for bringing together individuals conducting research and professional activities in the area of ECE to share and present their latest innovation and findings. The conference was held in All India Shviaji Memorial Society’s Institute of Information Technology, Pune, Maharashtra, India during December 19-21, 2016. The conference was jointly organized by IEEE Pune Section and IEEE BDS along with WIE AG of IEEE Pune Section and WIE AG of IEEE BDS. The theme of the conference is “Innovative research to build and lead the smart world”.

Total 225 papers were submitted at the conference out of which 63 papers were accepted. Apart from regular paper presentations by registered authors, in this conference, some other technical activities were incorporated, e.g. seven keynote talks, five invited talks, five tutorial, Industrial track (conducted by CISCO) and humanitarian project competition. The keynote speakers were: Dr. Bozenna Pasik-Duncan, Fellow IEEE, Professor, University of Kansas, USA; Dr. Sylvia Ratnasamy, Univ of California Berkeley, USA; Dr. Norliza M. Noor, Assoc. Prof., UTM, KL, Malaysia; Dr. Sankar Kumar Pal, Fellow of IEEE, Distinguished Scientist & Former Director, ISI, Kolkata, India; Mr. Amarnath Raja, CEO and co-founder of InApp; Dr. Ramalatha Marimuthu, IEEE WIE Chair 2011-12, Professor, KCT, India; Dr. Reena Dayal Yadav, Principal Engineering Manager, Microsoft India. The tutorials were on Spoofing Attacks in Voice Biometrics; Big Data; Cloud Computing; Recent Research Trends, Advances and Applications of Image Processing; Industrial Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Besides, there was a WIE forum conducted by Prof Dr. Celia Shahnaz, 2016 R10 WIE coordinator in collaboration with Dr. Rajashree Jain, Pune WIE AG Chair 2016. There were around 107 attendees were present at the conference.
