Celebration of IEEE Day 2016 : Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow

On October 4, 2016, IEEE BUET Student Branch, in collaboration with WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE Bangladesh Section, celebrated IEEE Day 2016. The event, held at ECE Building, BUET, was moderated by Dr. Celia Shahnaz, WIE R10 Coordinator and founder of WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section. IEEE Day marks the celebration of a historic event. On this day, in 1884, engineers worldwide met for the first time in history and IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas. The theme for this day is: ‘Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow’.

After the distribution of the ‘IEEE Day 2016’ t-shirts, the event was inaugurated by Dr. Quazi Deen Md. Khosru, Head, Department of EEE, BUET; Dr. Shaikh Anwarul Fattah, Professor, Department of EEE, BUET and Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section; and Mr. Yeasir Arafat, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, BUET and Vice Chair (Activity), IEEE Bangladesh Section. There was an official photo session, followed by a cake cutting ceremony.

Afterwards, a technical talk by our invited speaker, Ms. Aparajita Goswami, Deputy General Manager, Grameenphone, was held. Her talk focused on ways of enhancing skills for a better career development and a better future.

The R10 WIE Section Affinity Group Award 2016, won by IEEE Bangladesh Section WIE Affinity Group, was presented to Ms. Samantha Lubaba Noor, Chair, WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section. Later, there was a presentation on IEEE BUET Student Branch Activities. The ceremony was concluded by an inspirational and motivational speech by Dr. Celia Shahnaz.

It was overwhelming to see the response of the participants, which proved to be a grand success for WIE Affinity Group, IEEE BUET Student Branch. We express our utmost gratitude to the esteemed guests for their valuable contribution from their busy schedule and to the volunteers for their hard work.
