Workshop on how to “Build Beautiful Websites Yourself” Jointly Organized by WIE AG IEEE Bangladesh S

On 1st June, 2016, IEEE AIUB SB WIE Affinity Group in association with IEEE Bangladesh Section WIE Affinity Group, hosted a workshop and its very first event, titled “Build Beautiful Websites Yourself”, at the Room #266, Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB. The goal of the workshop was to familiarize IEEE members, especially IEEE WIE members, with the various methods and factors to consider while building a website. The participants comprised 16 female students and 4 male students; all of whom were IEEE members.

The event commenced with an opening speech delivered by Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director and Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Educational Activities Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section. Following this, Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North South University (NSU); Vice-Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section WIE Affinity Group, was welcomed.

Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, initially, gave an informative presentation on IEEE WIE Affinity Group, where she elucidated upon the mission and vision of WIE. Along with it, she encouraged male students to be an active part of the group, emphasizing on the need for them to support “women in engineering”.

Afterwards, Dr. Lamia Iftekhar initiated the workshop. At first, she gave a brief description about different types of websites and their applications. Then, she went on to build a website on www.weebly.com - an online platform, and subsequently launch it. Her prudently chosen methods helped students with no coding skills to grasp the basics of building a website. She explained the necessity of regular updates to a website, to maintain convenience for the users. On that note, she suggested to be heedful of online ethics as well as originality, while factoring in design and developing a website.

As the event concluded, Mr. Rinku Basak, Head of Graduate Program and Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, delivered the closing speech. Furthermore, on behalf of IEEE AIUB SB WIE Affinity Group, he presented a crest to Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, as a token of appreciation for her time and effort in conducting the workshop.
