WIE BD meeting with international WIE Chair

A meeting was arranged between Global WIE Chair, Dr. Takako Hashimoto and all the WIE members of Bangladesh according to the wish of Dr. Hashimoto during her visit to Bangladesh. This meeting was a part of WIECON-ECE 2015 and was held at the Conference Room (CSE Wing), ECE Building, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). This meeting turned out to be a magnificent event with the presence of Distinguished IEEE fellows - Dr. Ljiljana Trajkovic, President, IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society; Dr. Pau-Choo (Julia) Chung, Vice President of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) on Membership Activities; Dr. Norliza Mohd Noor 2015 IEEE Region 10 Individual Benefits & Services Coordinator; Dr. Supavadee Aramvith, 2015 IEEE Region 10 Women in Engineering (WIE) Coordinator; Margaretha A.K. Eriksson, IEEE Region 8 Director-Elect and Dr. Iva Bojic, postdoc at MIT, USA, MIT Senseable City Lab in Singapore. All of them were the invited and keynote speakers of WIECON-ECE 2015.

The meeting was conducted by Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, WIE BD; Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, Vice Chair, WIE BD with the presence of other WIE affinity group executive committee members including- Farhana Parveen, Smantha Lubaba Noor, Pramiti Anusuya Alam, Mohasinina Binte Kamal and Kazi Khurshidi haque Dia.

About 60 female students who are WIE members from almost all the public and private Universities attended the meeting. The student branches of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, BRAC University, North South University, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, United International University, Stamford University Bangladesh, East West Universit and Daffodil International University participated in this meeting.

The speakers in this meeting shared their experiences, goals and motivation toward success with the students. They inspired the female students to come out of their cocoon and do the best of what they can. The students asked many questions to the speakers, talked to them personally, took photos and enjoyed the meeting very much. Finally, the speakers were glad to see the enthusiasm of the female students of Bangladesh and expressed their hope for a better future.
