WIE Session at the Inauguration of MIST Student Branch

IEEE MIST (Military Institute of Engineering and Technology) Student Branch and WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section (IEEE-BDS) jointly organized a WIE Session and Industrial Talk at the Multipurpose Hall, MIST on May 3, 2015. The session titled “WIE BD Session: Choice & Change”. The event was attended by female engineering students from leading universities of Bangladesh. In this Session Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, WIE Affinity Group, IEEE BDS and Pramiti A. Alam, Senior Engineer at the R&D Division of Energypac and Newsletter Editor for WIE Affinity Group shared their experience with WIE. The Inauguration ceremony of IEEE MIST student branch was followed by this WIE Session.
Key members of the executive committee of IEEE-BDS and its WIE affinity group were also present at the session. The number of IEEE members attended the event was 120 and non-IEEE members were 30.
Professional Talk-1
The session first began with an overview of WIE Bangladesh and its recent activities from Dr. Celia Shahnaz. Dr. Shahnaz inspired the attendees by presenting the variety of activities conducted by the affinity group as well sharing her own personal experiences as an engineering student and academic with them. It was very pleasant for the members to know that rate of member growth in Bangladesh is highest in IEEE Region 10 having a percentage of 90.49%.
Professional Talk-2
Dr. Celia Shahnaz handed over the session to Pramiti A. Alam for a very inspirational talk -“WlE BD in Industry”. Ms. Alam discussed her transition from an engineering student to a working professional, describing her work experience as a female engineer working in Europe and Bangladesh.
Sharing her personal experience about the job market for woman she inspired the WIE members to come forward with new thoughts to represent the women all over the world. With her story she triggered a spark to work out of the comfort zone and become a pioneer not a follower
Interactive Session
After the informative talk by Dr. Celia Shahnaj, there was an interactive session at which members from every branch got the floor to share their opinion about different issues. The members got the opportunity to talk about their career views, thoughts and restrictions. They also discussed about the changes that can make a woman more confident in her career selection.
After the talks and interactive session Capt Md. Abdul Wahed, Chair, IEEE MIST SB, on behalf of IEEE MIST SB, handed over the token of memento to the speakers.
