Technical Seminar at AIUB
A Technical Seminar was organized jointly by IEEE AIUB Student Branch and WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section on 26May 2014. Highly esteemed speaker Prof Sankar Kumar Pal, Fellow IEEE distinguished Scientist , Former Director of Indian Statistical Institute(ISI) and Dr. Celia Shannaz, Chair, WIE affinity group presented talks which aimed to provide students with knowledge beyond their regular coursework and inspire them in the field of research.
Professor Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Honorable Dean, Faculty of Engineering initiated the seminar with a few words. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, the first speaker then gave a talk on the research paper entitled “Speech Enhancement Based on Noise–Compensated Phase Spectrum”. She focused on the importance of speech enhancement, limitations of existing methods, proposed method and motivation for the work. Besides this, she also encouraged students to pursue research work in signal processing.
Prof. Sankar K. Pal then presented a much awaited overview on “Soft Computing, Machine Intelligence and Granular Data Mining”. Being the founder of the Machine Intelligence Unit and the Centre for Soft Computing Research at the Indian Statistical Unit, he has an international reputation on the subject matter and the attendees were able to expand their knowledge on thought provoking concepts such as pattern recognition, fuzzy logic and clustering.
The event was also graced by the presence Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Associate Professor & Head (Undergraduate Program, Department of EEE), Mr. Rinku Basak Assistant Professor & Head (Postgraduate Program, Department of EEE), Mr. Farhadur Arifin, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering & Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, Mr. Chowdhry Akram Hossain, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering; Mentor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch & Special Asst., OSA, Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering & Special Asst., OSA and Ms. Tajbia Karim, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering. The well attended session ended with thanks giving to the speakers for their valuable time. Crests were given as small tokens of appreciation to the honorable guests in acknowledgement of their contribution.
