1st WIE Workshop on LaTeX Learning (March 8, 2013)
A LaTeX learning workshop was arranged for women engineers and engineering students by Women In Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section on March 8, 2013 at the Robert Noyce Simulation Lab, in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
LaTeX is a powerful writing tool, especially for technical writings. But many find it intimidating. The goal of the workshop was to get the participants familiar with the tool, and teach them how to write a complete technical paper using LaTeX. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, the Chair of WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section, introduced and demonstrated different features of LaTeX and also mentioned its advantages over regular document writing softwares. She taught them every know how to write a technical paper/document in LaTex starting from abstract to Bioliography. Ms. Urmita Sikder, Vice-chair, WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Ms. Orchi Hassan, Secretary, WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section, and Ms. Fariah Hayee, coordinator, Membership Development, WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section, provided a more detailed demonstration on some key features of LaTeX. The participants had an opportunity to get hands on experience on usage of the tools.
Dr. Pran Kanai Saha, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section attended the workshop to encourage the participants. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Secretary, IEEE Bangladesh Section was also present in the event. A certificate of attendance was awarded to each participant.
